Version 2.1 of the Capability Maturity Model® for Business Development (BD-CMM V2.1) is an incremental update to the major revision made in Version 2.0, which itself reflected significant, world-wide operational experience, lessons learned, and research studies since BD-CMM was first published in 2004.
The BD-CMM is relevant for anyone involved at the front end of the business life cycle, where an organisation’s strategic direction is defined, presence in the marketplace is established, and existing or prospective customers are engaged to procure the organisation’s offerings.
The model is especially targeted at those who are responsible for developing opportunities, managing BD/sales and marketing activities, implementing BD practices, and assuring continuing growth and viability in the organisation’s marketplace(s).
The BD-CMM also guides organisations that are experiencing critical changes, whether these are the result of downsizing, mergers, acquisitions, rapid growth, or major transitions in strategic direction. In addition, it is useful to managers who want to guide their organisations and personnel in BD best practices, as well as to those attempting to understand the capability and maturity of their BD operations.
